The Four Sevens
(5 + 5) x (5 + 5) = 100
Four 5’s written with simple arithmetical signs can be arranged into 100 in quite a straightforward way – just as shown.
Now the question is can you arrange exactly four 7’s with arithmetical signs so that they total 100?
Discussion
with 8 sevens it is((77-7)/7)*((77-7)/7)
with 7 sevens it could be (7*7)+(7*7)+((7+7)/7))
with 6 sevens ((7+7)*7)+((7+7)/7)
with 4 sevens (7+7)*(7+1/7) aah damn there is a 1
acce245 is right, bmcmillantx solution isn’t arithmetical. But the actual answer is.
But that doesn’t take into account that it doesn’t want you to add in other numbers (as they are not arithmetical signs). I dispute the validity of this, since using the given example, the answer/explanation don’t follow the same form even.
The question did not say simple and adding the decimal point is really dividing by 10!!! A move true form would be: 72 + 72 + 70 + 70 = 49+49+1+1= 100
